ILOILO City – A 53-year-old farmer and his minor son were arrested during a raid yesterday in their house in Sitio Imbidayan, Barangay Sinugbuhan, San Joaquin, Iloilo.
Authorities identified the suspects as aliases “Dodong” and “Toto”, 17.
Joint operatives of the San Joaquin Municipal Police Station (MPS) and 1st Iloilo Police Mobile Force Company led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Artillero implemented the search warrant and recovered the following:
* shotgun without a serial number,
* steel magazine for a 12-gauge shotgun, and
* five rounds of live ammunition for a 12-gauge shotgun.
The suspects attempted to flee but they were immediately collared. They were detained at San Joaquin MPS for violation of Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
San Joaquin police said the raid was carried out following the residents’ complain that the father and son were carrying firearms and allegedly intimidated their neighbors.
Further investigation revealed that Dodong was the primary suspect in a fatal shooting incident that occurred sometime in November 2024 in the said barangay. He was temporarily released from jail after posting bail.
Colonel Roland V. Bulalacao, officer-in-charge of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), said the said operation was part of their fight against loose firearms and individuals who possessed homemade guns.
“This arrest demonstrates our firm resolve to keep our community safe from criminals and their illegal activities. To anyone holding illegal firearms or using them for crimes, turn them in now and cease your illegal acts, or be prepared to face justice,” Bulalacao added./PN
