BACOLOD City – A painter is a “person of interest” in the robbery of almost P4 million worth of jewelry and cash in a resort in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

The painter hastily left Lakawon Island Beach Resort and Spa in Barangay Cadiz Viejo on Sunday without permission from his foreman, police said.

The Cadiz City police station headed by Chief Inspector Rocky Desear has yet to identify the painter but from what the investigators have so far gathered, he is a resident of Pulupandan, Negros Occidental.

Former Pagadian City, Zamaboanga del Sur mayor Samuel Sy Co, 51, and wife Priscilla Ann, 49, told the police that they lost expensive jewelry items and cash they have with them at the resort. They said robbers may have entered their Junior Suite.

Citing initial investigation, Cadiz police said the culprits entered the suite via the window of a comfort room.
Police identified the couple as businesspeople residing at 50 Lapu-Lapu Street, Magallanes Village, Makati City.

Among those the couple declared missing were sets of gold and diamond earrings, ring, bracelets, and necklaces. They also lost P15,000 cash.

The couple was charged with syndicated estafa in 2013 for alleged involvement in a multibillion-peso Ponzi scheme. They were arrested and detained but courts later granted them bail.

Investigators have yet to identify a suspect in the robbery.

Police said the couple decided to stay in the resort after attending a friend’s wedding in Negros Occidental.

Co discovered the robbery when he looked for his wristwatch upon their return to their suite after a swim, police said./PN
