MANILA — Malacañang challenged Sen. Imee Marcos to formally file charges against the alleged mastermind behind a supposed flood control scam, stressing that public accusations must be backed by concrete legal action.
The Palace issued the statement after Marcos raised concerns over the transparency of findings from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), claiming that the individual allegedly behind the anomaly has yet to face charges and that corrupt practices remain unchecked.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said that if the senator possesses credible evidence, she should elevate the matter to the proper authorities, particularly the Office of the Ombudsman or the Department of Justice.
“Hamon natin kay Senator Imee, kung mayroon kayong alam, kung sino man yung buwayang pinaparinggan, i-file nyo na sa Ombudsman o sa DOJ kung anong magiging jurisdiction nyan,” Castro said.
Castro emphasized that while the senator’s statements appear to point to a specific individual, such allegations must be substantiated through formal legal processes rather than aired in public without corresponding cases.
She also noted that Marcos has been openly critical of the administration, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., on a range of issues.
Malacañang reiterated that accusations of corruption should be supported by solid proof and pursued through established legal channels to ensure accountability and due process./PN
