ANTIQUE – Palay (unhusked rice) and corn production in this province increased in the second quarter of this year, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Antique.
The total palay output from April to June 2025 was estimated at 18,139 metric tons – 49.0 percent higher than the 12,177 metric tons produced in the same period last year. The harvest area likewise increased by 40.2 percent, with 4,995 hectares compared to 3,561 hectares in the second quarter of 2024.
Consequently, the province posted a 13.0 percent increase in the production of corn to 4,281 metric tons in the second quarter of 2025 from 3,787 metric tons recorded a year ago. The area harvested also went up by 8.5 percent from 984 hectares to 1,068 hectares.
Meanwhile, earlier this month the PSA-Antique facilitated the 2025 Third Quarter Palay and Corn Production Surveys (PCPS).
The ten-day collection of data from October 1 to October 10 involved 171 and 280 samples for CPS and PPS, respectively.
PSA-Antique said the 2025 PCPS aims to generate estimates on palay and corn production, area, yield, and other production-related data, and price data. These will be used by government planners, policymakers, and program developers in formulating economic development plans, policies, and programs./PN
