KALIBO, Aklan – The island of Panay in Western Visayas was among the top 25 destinations in Asia this year, according to online magazine TripAdvisor.
Panay – composed of provinces Antique, Aklan, Capiz, and Iloilo – ranked No. 20. It is the only place in the Philippines included in the list.
TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel website, cited Puka Beach, Ariel’s Point, White Beach, Motag Travel Musuem, and the Gigantes Group of Islands as some of the popular tourist sites in Panay.
Bali, Indonesia topped the list followed by Phuket, Thailand in second place and Hanoi, Vietnam in third place.
Fourth place went to Siem Reap in Cambodia, fifth place to Tokyo in Japan, sixth place to Kathmandu in Nepal, seventh place to Hong Kong in China, eight place to New Delhi in India, ninth place to Goa in India, and 10th place to Ko Samui, Surat Thani in Thailand.
Hoi An in Vietnam came in 11th spot, followed by Bangkok and Chiang Mai both in Thailand in 12th and 13th spots, respectively.
Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara in Indonesia landed in 14th spot, Krabi Town in Thailand, 15th spot, Jaipur in India, 16th spot, Beijing in China, 17th, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, 18th, Singapore, 19th, Kyoto in Japan, 21st, Taipei in Taiwan, 22nd, Seoul in South Korea, 23rd, Da Nang in Taiwan, 24th, and Shanghai in China, 25th.
The rankings were based on the reviews that TripAdvisor collects from travelers worldwide for a year.
