ILOILO City – Three more persons from Pandan, Antique tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
In COVID-19 Case Bulletin No. 25 of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 released yesterday afternoon, the three cases were:
* 32-year-old male (region’s Patient No. 50)
* 28-year-old female (region’s Patient No. 51)
* 33 year-old female (region’s Patient No. 52)
As of yesterday, Western Visayas already recorded a total of 52 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with eight having recovered from the illness while seven died.
“We received 201 laboratory test results from the Western Visayas Medical Center sub-national laboratory. Of these, 198 were negative and three were positive,” said DOH-6’s Dr. Renilyn Reyes.
Reyes headed DOH-6’s public health program development cluster.
Just this Sunday, April 19, Pandan recorded one additional COVID-19 case, a 68-year-old male (region’s Patient No. 49).
These four new Pandan COVID cases were close contacts of the town’s first case (region’s Patient No. 37), a 69-year-old male admitted at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital.
All these four cases in Pandan were
asymptomatic.
The most common symptoms of
COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.
Of the 52 confirmed cases in Western Visayas, Iloilo province had the most number at 18.
Aklan had six; Antique, nine; Capiz, five; Negros Occidental, one; Bacolod City, seven; and Iloilo City, six.
The island province of Guimaras remained COVID-19-free.
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales.
These droplets also land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth./PN
