BORACAY – Parents here are being urged to make sure their children are already home by the time the curfew hours start.

The curfew is from 12 midnight to 4 a.m.

Violators are penalized with a fine of P2,500 or from one to two months of imprisonment for the first offense; a fine of P2,500 or from two to four months of imprisonment for the second offense; and a fine of P2,500 or from three to six months of imprisonment for the third and succeeding offenses.

Malay acting town mayor Frolibar Bautista received reports that minors in Barangay Manocmanoc were still out even during curfew hours, and they were mostly in computer shops.

These business establishments have long been made aware that minors were prohibited from roaming around during curfew hours.

Bautista said he has given enough warnings to guardians and parents about the curfew hours in an effort to curb the community spread of the coronavirus.

“Pag ang mga computer shops ay walang permits to operate, malaki ang problema nila lalo na pag may menor de edad na nakapasok,” he stressed.

Aklan and Boracay Island are classified as low risk areas under pandemic Alert Level 2 by the National Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

The shorter curfew hours is seen to help businesses survive amid the pandemic and encourage tourists to spend more time outside of their accommodation establishments.

Persons below 18 years old and those above 60 years old including pregnant women and individuals with underlying health conditions are still encouraged to stay home as much as possible.

They may leave home for only essential reasons like vaccination purposes, medical checkups and buying food and medicines.

In a related news, the Malay municipal police station on Nov. 1 reported 71 individuals in barangays Yapak, Manocmanoc and Balabag were fined for violating the curfew hours under Municipal Ordinance No. 453 series of 2021 otherwise known as the COVID-19 Prevention and Control Ordinance of Malay, Aklan./PN
