ILOILO – To ensure access to basic water services, the provincial government inaugurated a water system project in Barangay Quinagaringan Grande, Passi City on May 27.
The initiative falls under the MoRProGRes Iloilo program and was spearheaded by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. through the Provincial Engineer’s Office (PEO).
This P1.59-million project addresses long-standing issues of inadequate and inconsistent water supply in the barangay, particularly during dry season.
Moreover, this reliable water system guarantees the barangay’s equal access to safe water and is expected to significantly improve public health.
Residents of Quinagaringan Grande recalled enduring severe water scarcity for nearly two years following the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. With the completion of the water facility, the residents expressed gratitude for what they described as a long-awaited and much-needed solution.
Gov. Defensor praised the community’s cooperation and support towards the project, emphasizing the community’s key role in securing the long-term sustainability of the water system.
The provincial government remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering sustainable and community-centered infrastructure, and provide more local and sustainable projects.
Also present during the inauguration were Punong Barangay Ariel C. Castellano, Provincial Engineer Romeo C. Andig, and representatives from the Balud Water System Board of Directors (BOD).
Rizel C. Saplad, a member of the BOD, expressed her sincere appreciation for the project.
“Hanggod guid daya nga bulig sa adlaw-adlaw nga panginahanglan (This is truly a great help for our daily needs),” she said.
Milagros C. Cerbaña, also from the BOD, emphasized the long-term benefits the project will bring to the barangay.
The water system is expected to benefit 50 households by providing them with a safe and consistent water supply.
Barangay officials from neighboring Quinagaringan Pequeño also attended the event, highlighting the spirit of collaboration among local communities./PN
