CHESS players from Passi City have took home four medals – three of which were golds – in the Visayas leg of the 2019 National Youth and School Chess Championships at the 4th floor Metro Lobby of Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City.
Eight-year-old Ruslan Pamplona bested all of his competitors in the boys under 9 category to capture the gold medal, while 9-year-old King Lanz Pamplona also took home a championship in the boys under 10 category.
Also winning a gold medal for the Passi City delegation is Rolando Pamplona III, who ruled the under seven category, while Queen Rose Pamplona finished runner-up in the under 13 category.
Randy Palomaria, Passi City Sports Development Officer III, said that the winners are set to advance to the National Finals at the National Capital Region slated from March 8 to 13.
“The Passi City is proud that even with our lean delegation, we were able to take home five medals. All of them did their best against the tough players from Visayas,” said Randy Palomaria, who headed the delegation./PN
