WHAT SHOULD an individual or a local government unit (LGU) do when seeking an electricity distribution utility that offers affordable, reliable power, excellent customer service, and a genuine commitment to corporate social responsibility?
The answer is quite simple. If your current electricity distributor falls short of these expectations, look for one that can deliver — and make the switch.
That is precisely what the Municipality of Pavia did when it switched to MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), bringing the promise of better electricity service to its constituents.
The milestone took place on October 26, when the Pavia Municipal Hall was officially energized by MORE Power. Joining the growing list of customers making the switch were the Commission on Population and Development and New Panay Agri-Ventures Development Inc., both in Pavia, as well as Egger Poultry Farm Incorporated in neighboring San Miguel, Iloilo.
The occasion marked a historic first, with Pavia becoming the first LGU to transfer its electricity service to MORE Power — a move expected to enhance the municipality’s operational efficiency and delivery of basic public services.
The shift also reflects a growing trend among businesses and government offices in Iloilo Province seeking alternative electricity distribution services.
Among them is the Commission on Population and Development in Pavia, which became the first government office outside Iloilo City to switch to MORE Power.
New Panay Agri-Ventures Development Inc., a Pavia-based feed manufacturer, has likewise made the transition.
Meanwhile, Egger Poultry Farm Incorporated became the first commercial establishment in San Miguel to transfer its electricity service to MORE Power.
To date, 21 accounts representing various establishments across Iloilo Province have switched to MORE Power, reflecting growing consumer confidence in the distribution utility.
What makes these transfers particularly noteworthy is how smoothly and seamlessly they were carried out — a testament to the technical expertise and operational capabilities of MORE Power’s personnel.
According to MORE Power president and CEO Roel Castro, “MORE Power is truly grateful for the trust given to us by our partners who chose us to be their trusted electric distributor. As we continue to invest in expansion to other municipalities, we also elevate the level of customer service that our partners will experience. We are glad to be part of the solution for our partners”.
I suppose it is only fitting that Pavia should be the first LGU to make this historic switch. After all, among the rapidly developing towns of Metro Iloilo, Pavia stands out for its remarkable economic progress and growing potential to become a city.
And speaking of corporate social responsibility (CSR), MORE Power has another noteworthy initiative worth highlighting — this time involving environmental conservation.
Recently, more than 50 MORE Power employees braved the scorching heat and trekked up the steep slopes of Agony Hill in Alimodian, Iloilo, carrying 500 narra saplings for a tree-planting activity.
The initiative was undertaken in coordination with the Alimodian Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office and the municipal government.
The activity underscores MORE Power’s continuing commitment to environmental stewardship as part of its corporate social responsibility programs.
Through similar initiatives conducted annually, the company seeks to strengthen its ties with communities while demonstrating that its responsibilities extend beyond providing reliable electricity to contributing to environmental protection and community development.
According to Engineer Ronald Torres, chief operating officer of MORE Power, “It is very important to have this kind of activity. Since MORE Power started here in Iloilo City, various activities and partnerships with LGU and other stakeholders have been conducted. We will continue to support initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and strengthen community partnerships”.
It is worth noting that since taking over electricity distribution in Iloilo City, MORE Power has surpassed its original commitment to plant 10,000 trees, having planted 14,000 saplings through various community-based initiatives.
As usual, well played indeed!/PN
