FOR most young women, turning 18 is a time for grand celebrations and cherished traditions. But for Mica Angela Prado-Singian, her debut was more than just a rite of passage — it was a testament to her passion for animal welfare.

A Grade 12 ABM student at Hua Siong College of Iloilo, Mica dreams of becoming a lawyer, following in the footsteps of her mother, Atty. Annelei Fabia Prado-Singian, and grandfather, Atty. Igmedio Sta. Maria Prado, Jr. Despite her aspirations and academic commitments, Mica, affectionately called “Shobe” by her loved ones, has always found time to champion a cause close to her heart: rescuing and caring for animals.

Instead of the traditional 18 blue bills ritual during her debut at the Iloilo Convention Center, Mica made a heartfelt request. She asked 18 of her mom’s friends to donate whatever they could, with all proceeds going to Team Rescue Iloilo, a local organization dedicated to saving and rehabilitating animals in need.

The event, brought to life by WES Coordinators under Jocelyn Pineda Usalla, was a reflection of Mica’s compassion and the unwavering support of her family.
“She may be 18 now, but she will always be our baby,” her parents lovingly shared, echoing the sentiment of her older brother.

Mica’s story reminds us that milestones are more meaningful when shared with others, especially to those who have no voice but desperately need a helping hand./PN
