MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. assured the public that the government is ready to provide assistance to the residents affected by Typhoon Julian.
In his speech during the distribution of condonation and release of mortgage in Paniqui, Tarlac, the Chief Executive also advised the public to remain calm and cautious.
“Mag-ingat po tayong lahat. Atin pong ipatuloy ang binabantayan na Bagyong Julian, at handang magbigay ang pamahalaan ng tulong sa ating mga kababayang nangangailangan,” Marcos said.
PAGASA earlier said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4 remained hoisted over Batanes and the northern portion of Babuyan Islands as slow-moving Typhoon Julian passed near Sabtang Island on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said that the voter registration period in areas in Northern Luzon affected by Typhoon Julian may be extended.
“Bagamat sinabi namin hindi kami magpapa-extend ng registration subalit kasalukuyang binabagyo ‘yung mga kababayan natin sa may Northern Luzon kung kaya binigyan namin ng authority ang regional offices na nasa kanila na ang discretion kung hindi ipagpapatuloy ang voter registration ngayon para ito ay mai-reset sa ibang araw,” Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said.
He added: “Kung kakailanganin, halimbawa na bukas, kaya lang magkakasabay ito sa simula ng filing ng certificates of candidacy (COCs) na tatagal hanggang October 8.”
