CAPIZ — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led a rice distribution drive on Monday, April 27, benefiting 500 individuals from vulnerable sectors at the covered gym in Barangay Milibili, Roxas City, Capiz.
The initiative aims to cushion the impact of rising food and fuel prices and forms part of the government’s continuing efforts to strengthen food security.
The President was joined by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, and other local officials during the activity.
A total of 300 farmers and 200 beneficiaries from marginalized groups—including senior citizens, solo parents, and persons with disabilities (PWDs)—received 10-kilogram sacks of rice. Beneficiaries came from Barangays Bolo, Bato, Bago, and Milibili.
The distribution was carried out under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), which provides financial assistance to local government units (LGUs) for food security programs.
Under the directive of the President, LGUs are encouraged to fully utilize the LGSF, allocating up to 100 percent of funds for rice distribution, particularly during periods of economic strain.
The Roxas City rollout is one of six scheduled distributions nationwide this year, following its initial launch in Manila.
In his remarks, Marcos emphasized the importance of strong coordination between national and local governments to ensure the efficient delivery of aid.
“This strengthened partnership is crucial in addressing the socio-economic pressures faced by our constituents,” he said.
He also underscored the need to support the agriculture sector to sustain food supply while helping farmers improve productivity and income.
The program is part of the administration’s broader food security agenda, including initiatives such as the Bagong Pilipinas Rice Program, aimed at ensuring stable food access for Filipino families amid global economic challenges./PN
