BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Southern Visayas district, which covers the entire island of Negros, and the province of Siquijor, is shipping two truckloads of relief supplies to typhoon-affected Cagayan Valley and Bicol in Luzon.
“We saw on television what our kababayans really needed (in the aftermath of typhoons “Rolly” and “Ulysses”). Part of the effort of the PCG district is to give assistance,” said Captain Eduardo De Luna, PCG-Southern Visayas commander.
In cooperation with the PCG Auxiliary based in Negros, they managed to gather essential items and loaded these to BRP Batangas, a coastguard patrol vessel.
Commander Rhoderick Elioran, commanding officer of BRP Batangas, said the ship is already carrying at least 20 tons of food stuff icked up from Zamboanga City.
The ship will leave Bredco port on Saturday and is expected to reach Manila by Sunday if the weather permits.
Elioran said the PCG in the city will continue to accept donations until Friday.
Donations can be dropped at the PCG-Bredco sub-station at the Bredco port./PN
