PCOO caravan to go on all year round

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) secretary Martin Andanar

THE “Press Freedom Caravan” will continue making its round all over the country this year to explain the media policies of President Rodrigo Duterte and to present the strides made by the administration in the first half of the President’s term, according to Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) secretary Martin Andanar.

Itong press freedom caravan ay napag-usapan namin ni [former] secretary Bong Go. Sabi ko sa kanya, kailangan talagang ikutin itong buong Pilipinas para maintindihan ng lahat ang media policies ni President Duterte. Sabi niya naman sa’kin ay suportado nga ito ni Pangulong Duterte at maging siya ay suportado niya ito even if and when he becomes senator,” Andanar said in a phone patch interview on Radyo Bacolod.

He added: “We go around the country to explain the media policies – itong Freedom of Information, Presidential Task Force on Media Security, at Government-Media Bridge Policy na nagpapalakas ng tulay ng media at gobyerno. Naniniwala kasi tayo na kung gusto nating mapabilis ang nation-building ay talagang dapat may kooperasyon tayo ng private media.”

The PCOO chief also said they go around “to explain, express, and present” to the local government units, national government agencies, and other stakeholders the achievements of Duterte in the last three years.

“You have to remember na tatlong taon na lang ang natitira sa termino ni Presidente so we must communicate kung ano na ang nagawa ni Presidente in the past three years. The next three years ay legacy-building already and communication plays a very significant role in the remaining years of President Duterte in office,” Andanar stressed.

The Press Freedom Caravan was conceptualized last year and launched earlier this year in Bangkok, Thailand to coincide with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between PCOO and Thailand’s Ministry of Information.

To date, the PCOO chief has visited more than 30 provinces from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao and has coordinated with various media organizations there./PN
