PALM Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC) has already started providing aid to its host communities in Iloilo even before the coronavirus disease 2019 outbreak became critical.
The company which owns the 135-megawatt power plant in Concepcion, Iloilo took the initiative and initially donated last February thermal scanners and personal protective equipment (PPE) to its host municipality as help in the battle against the virus.
PCPC also turned over 10,000 surgical masks and 5,500 pairs of surgical gloves as part of its sustained support to the town which until now remains free from COVID-19.
“We are still fighting and standing firm because the many heartwarming support we have received have sustained all of us in this difficult fight (against COVID-19),” Concepcion Mayor Raul Banias said.

FOOD FOR FRONTLINERS
Since April, weekly food assistance for eight consecutive weeks was mobilized by PCPC to support Concepcion town’s health workers, village watchmen, and police and military officers who serve as frontliners in the battle again against the virus. The food assistance – consisted of an average weekly ration of 36 sacks of rice and 200 kilograms of meat products – also benefited 25 barangay kitchens providing meals for the senior citizens.
During the final week of the food assistance, Mayor Banias aired on his social media account that “these (food donations) deeply impacted and boosted the morale and esprit de corps of their frontliners, barangay officials, senior citizens, and kasimanwas.”
An eight-week donation drive started on April to sustain the needs of frontliners and senior citizens of Concepcion town.
Aside from the support to the town, PCPC also reached out to Iloilo City and Iloilo Province by handing over surgical masks and gloves to their respective local government units which currently have active cases of COVID-19.
“During the past months, our focus is protecting the welfare of our people and our communities’ health, hence, we join in the national effort to contribute to the larger fight against COVID-19,” Nicandro Fucoy, PCPC President and CEO said.
As of late, PCPC, together with its affiliate Peakpower Energy Inc. power plants in Mindanao, have donated around P7M worth of PPE, food packs and alcohol, among others, to those in the frontline and to those communities affected by COVID-19 pandemic.
The donations also benefited the cities of San Juan and Pasig in Metro Manila, including the non-profit organization Caritas Manila.
