KALIBO, Aklan – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Provincial Office conducted a clean-up drive in the world-famous Boracay Island.

PDEA provincial director Christina Cabatingan led the initiative as part of “Love Boracay: Celebrate, Rehabilitate” program on April 27.

She said the clean-up drive is in line with the government’s objective in promoting sustainable tourism practices and generate support from stakeholders for the rehabilitation of Boracay.

According to Department of Tourism secretary Bernadette Puyat, an influx of tourists is expected in the famed island resort as it commemorates its six-month closure.

Boracay Island temporarily closed to visitors from April 26 to October 25 last year due to pollution and solid waste management problems./PN
