ROXAS City – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency will “continuously monitor” drug-affected barangays in the province.
“The drop boxes will help us identify drug suspects,” said PDEA Capiz team leader Rachelle Mission.
Some of the drug suspects were barangay officials, Mission stressed. “But we need to verify the claims,” she added.
Currently, 38 barangays in the city and two in Pontevedra are not yet cleared from illegal drugs.
This was confirmed by the PDEA during the Barangay Drug Abuse Council meeting at the Urban Manor Hotel on Aug. 17.
Records from the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) showed nine barangays in the city were “drug-cleared,” while 31 were “moderately affected by drugs” and 16 were “slightly affected.”
There were no “seriously affected” barangays, the records showed.
On the other hand, Mayor Angel Alan Celino led the covenant signing of the Philippine National Police’s Tokhang Reboot program during the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s regular session on Aug. 22.
Celino expressed his support to the program.
He also urged barangay officials to coordinate with the police.
CPPO director Superintendent Samuel Nacion, Roxas City police station chief Superintendent Dante Tayco, Liga ng mga Barangay president Virgilio Santos Jr. and barangay captains in the city attended the event./PN
