
MANILA – University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas handed Arellano University Lady Chiefs its first defeat in the NCAA Season 95 women’s volleyball, 22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-12, 16-14, at the San Juan Arena.
Jhona Rosal spearheaded the offense for the Lady Altas with 15 points to go along with 16 excellent digs.
Dana Persa contributed 10 markers, build on eight attacks and two service aces on Wednesday.
Converted setter Jenny Gaviola also proved instrumental for the Lady Altas, which won its fifth straight match after losing its season opener, with 12 markers, including seven rejections.
Season 94 runner up Lady Altas displayed its veteran smarts against the three-time defending champions Lady Chiefs to erase a two set deficit and get back on their Season 94 finals tormentor.
“Kapag lumalaban kami ng fifth set, ‘yung third set kahit under tayo ng dalawang set, maraming pwedeng mangyari, maraming pwedeng matutunan. Tapos every set, every point dapat i-celebrate natin tapos tandaan,” said Lady Altas head coach Macky Cariño.
Regine Arocha finished with a game-high 23 points on top of 10 excellent receptions for a double-double performance.
Princess Bello added 16 markers as the Lady Chiefs slumped to 5-1.
In the other match on Wednesday, Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights arrested its two-game skid after dispatching Mapua University Lady Cardinals in straight-set fashion, 27-25, 25-14, 25-16.
Chamberlaine Cunada and Julienne Castro rallied the Lady Knights past the Lady Cardinals with the former tallying 16 points and 18 excellent digs and the latter having 12 markers./PN
