MANILA – Petron Blaze Spikers made a short work of Foton Tornadoes, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16, in the knockout semifinals round of the Philippine Superliga Invitational at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Malolos, Bulacan.
Cherry Rondina spearhead the Blaze Spikers to an impressive victory in just 79 minutes of action to formally barge into the best-of-three finals starting today.
The UAAP Season 81 MVP awardee finished with double-double 17 points and 13 digs while Frances Molina and Chlodia Cortez chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
“It feels so good to be back in the Finals. We missed this feeling,” said Blaze Spikers head coach Ceseal Delos Santos. “We will grab this opportunity even if we only have one day to prepare.”
Rookie Ejiya Laure and Ilongga Ma. Shaya Adorador delivered 14 points apiece for the Tornadoes, which fell short anew of reaching the finals after winning the Grand Prix in 2013 and 2014.
Meanwhile, Filipina-Hawaiian Kalei Mau kicked F2 Logistics’ title-retention bid to a higher gear, steering the Cargo Movers past the Cignal HD Spikers, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21, in the other semifinals match.
Mau, who missed the early part of the Invitational Cup due to injury, finished with 21 attacks, a block and an ace for 23 points for the defending champions Cargo Movers./PN
