PH Army sweeps DoubleDragon boat race

PHILIPPINE Army Dragon Warriors showed its dominance in the 2018 National DoubleDragon Boat Race Championship after sweeping the open, mixed and women’s titles on Saturday at the Iloilo River along Muelle Loney Street, Iloilo City.

The Dragon Warriors captured the women’s small boat category title by clocking one minute and 4.30 seconds, beating Team Bakunawa Ilagan (1:06.38), two-time champion Philippine Coast Guard (1:07.37) and Triton (1:12.04).

They also ruled the open small boat category with 54.40 seconds. Trailing behind were Dumaguete Yellowfins (56.27), Pilipinas Wave Warriors (56.81) and Team Bakunawa Ilagan (58.11).

Philippine Army was also the fastest team in the mixed standard category with 54.31 seconds. It was followed by Philippine Coast Guard (55.67), Triton (57.11) and Dumaguete Yellowfins (57.69).

Champion teams from each category received P50,000 cash, a trophy and a medal. Second placers had P20,000 cash and a trophy and third placers, P10,000 cash and a trophy.

Other participating teams were Boracay All-Stars, Bohol Paddlers Association, Nami Spr Ati Boracay, Rowers Club Philippines, Speed Devilz, One Piece Drakon Sangres, Cebu Fireblade, Ampphi Davao, Davao Wave Warriors DBT, and John B. Lacson Iloilo Komodo Dragon.

The annual dragon boat race started as the Senator Franklin Drilon Cup in 2012 before DoubleDragon Properties Corp. took over the organization of the event in 2014./PN
