PH stuns Indonesia in SEA Games floorball

MANILA – Ryan Cater drained a go-ahead goal as the Philippine men’s floorball team notched its first win in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games at the expense of Indonesia, 5-4, at the UP College of Human Kinetics Gym in Quezon City.

Cater gained possession of the ball from Henielee Pastor from the back on Monday and tried to keep the ball moving before hitting it into the game winning shot.

Prior to that, the Indonesians drew first blood courtesy of Bayu Munandar in the 6:31 mark of the opening period before Janet Tampubolon doubled the lead at the 35th minute.

Christian Schoultze netted back-to-back goals to level the count after two before he netted two goals more as the Philippines took the lead at 4-2 but Indonesians answered back with two hits from Rudy Kurniawan to tie the count at 4-all.

“It was really nice. We showed a lot of heart. Buong puso,” Schoultze said after the close victory.

In the distaff side, the Philippine women’s floorball team opened its campaign with an 8-1 rout to Indonesia.

After an exchange of goals between Philippines’ Michelle Lindahl and Indonesia’s Rista Delina, the national team converted seven straight goals from Jade Rivera and Michelle Cruzado to earn the victory./PN
