BACOLOD City – Overindulgence in food during this time of the year is an inevitable part of the holiday season. Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, thus reminded Negrenses to watch their eating habits.
According to Tumimbang, households tend to prepare a variety of food in large quantities.
However, gatherings are limited because of restrictions due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic; people might find themselves dealing with plenty of leftovers.
He said it would be smart to be mindful of which dishes needed to be consumed right away or, to keep in the fridge, and for how long.
“Refrigerate unconsumed foods and change its container if possible to maintain the freshness,” he added.
Tumimbang also said that with limited space for physical exercise due to protocols of social distancing, some people might forget the importance of physical movement to burn unwanted fats and to stimulate proper blood circulation.
“Being glued on television set while eating is not a good habit. It does not help in proper digestion,” he said.
Those taking maintenance medicines for hypertension and those having diabetes should always check their blood pressure and blood sugar as overeating and lack of exercise are the common causes of these illnesses, he pointed out./PN
