MANILA – Former world champion Jerwin Ancajas marked a successful return to the United States with a majority decision win over Ruben Casero on Saturday night (Sunday in the Philippines) at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California.
The Panabo City, Davao del Norte native earned favorable 80-72 scores from two judges, while the third scored the bout even at 76-all.
Ancajas controlled the fight from start to finish by working behind his jab and occasionally landing counter right hooks.
The 33-year-old Filipino fighter also showed flashes of his vintage form, landing sharp jabs and his trademark left straight.
Although Casero had moments where he managed to connect against Ancajas, the Filipino boxer clearly dominated most of the rounds.
With the victory, Ancajas improved his record to 36 wins, four losses, and two draws, including 24 wins by knockout. It was also his third consecutive win.
Before facing Casero, Ancajas last fought in the U.S. in June 2024, scoring a fifth-round technical knockout victory over Wilner Soto.
Casero, 32, dropped to a record of 13 wins, five losses, and no draws, with five of his wins coming by stoppage./PN
