PNP spokesperson Colonel Jean Fajardo said suspending policemen’s leaves is a regular practice within the organization as part of its “Ligtas Paskuhan 2023” (safe Christmas) operations.

Naka-full alert na tayo nationwide para siguraduhin na meron tayong readily available na mga personnel for deployment. At as of today, nasa 39,000 personnel na po yung na-i-deploy natin nationwide,” Fajardo said in a press briefing on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

(We are on full alert nationwide to ensure we have readily available personnel for deployment. As of today, we have already dispatched 39,000 cops nationwide.)

Fajardo explained that personnel were deployed in places of worship, major thoroughfares, transportation terminals, and hubs to prepare for an influx of locals traveling to their respective provinces.

She added that more troops would be dispatched from their counterparts in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard. (Faith Argosino © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
