BACOLOD City – Starting next month, Police Station 3 will temporarily occupy the old barangay hall of Mandalagan.
Barangay Captain Arturo Parreño confirmed this in a radio interview.
While some residents oppose his decision to provide the police station the space, Parreño believes the presence of officers in his barangay will avert crimes and make the locals feel secure.
Police Station 3 does not have a budget to pay for the monthly rental Lopue’s Mandalagan Corp. is going to charge it by July, according to Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, city police head.
Lopue’s Mandalagan Corp. owns the building where the police station occupies a space.
Police Station 3 has been occupying the space for more than 30 years now without any charge, the company wrote the station commander, Senior Inspector Larry Teovisio, on Dec. 31 last year.
But with increases in real property and building taxes, the company said it may no longer provide the station such benefit.
The company clarified that it does not intend to kick Police Station 3 out of the building but is giving the latter until June 30 this year to decide whether or not to continue occupying the space.
Wanky told Panay News in a text message the monthly rental ranged between P20,000 and P30,000.
He said they are now looking for a donor who will provide the station a lot where it can put up its own building./PN
