BACOLOD City – All police station commanders must lead operations stopping illegal gambling in Negros Island Region.

Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, regional police director, gave the order in light of a similar directive from the Philippine National Police headquarters, said Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, Police Regional Office 18 spokesperson.

All illegal gambling operators and personnel must be arrested, Vargas said.

After suspending antidrug operations, Director General Ronald Dela Rosa ordered the police to shift to the fight against illegal gambling.

According to Vargas, Dela Rosa also warned police officers against accepting money from illegal gambling operators.

Police in this capital city were also running after illegal gambling, stressed Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky.

Numbers games cara y cruz, or tumbò, and jai-alai, among others, were illegal in Bacolod, said the city police head.

No one was authorized to operate Small Town Lottery in the city.

But Wanky said they have yet to consult with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office regarding the reported operators seeking franchise./PN
