PORK prices have gone up to as high as P420 as the effects of the African Swine Fever (ASF) continue to pose challenges to the country’s hog industry.

Based on the monitoring of the Department of Agriculture (DA), prices of  pork kasim range from P295 to P370 per kilo while prices of liempo range from P340 to P420.

Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) chairman Rosendo So said farmgate price of pork increased to P205 from P198 the previous week. However, retail prices should not reach P420.

So said kasim should be sold for P320 while liempo should not go over P360.

‘Yun ang bantayan ng DA kasi kung nakita naman natin, majority nasa tamang presyo naman. ‘Yung mga P420 dapat sinisita ‘yan,” he said.

The DA’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service is already looking into this.

According to Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa, the DA spokesperson, the hog industry continues to face challenges including the effects of ASF.

‘Yung ating prevailing price pa rin naman for kasim nasa P340. ‘Yung ating liempo nasa P380. Parehas pa rin siya nitong mga nakalipas na araw. Patuloy pa rin na challenge sa atin ‘yung ASF so isa ‘yan sa pangunahing issue dahil wala pa naman tayong bakuna. And then ‘yung feeds mataas pa rin,” he said. (GMA Integrated News)
