ILOILO – Three poverty alleviation partnership projects under the Angat-Buhay Program were launched in Lambunao town.
Lambunao is a pilot area of the program and one of the 50 adopted local government units (LGUs) that comprise Angat-Buhay’s first batch of beneficiaries.
The Angat-Buhay Program is focused on five key advocacy areas: nutrition and food security, universal healthcare, education, rural development, and women empowerment.
The program is in partnership with private corporations.
For Lambunao, the specific projects are: linking farmers to corporations; nutrition and feeding activities for severely malnourished children; and establishment of play centers for every barangay.
“Importante na mag-succeed ang partnership ng LGUs at private sector. Ang pagpili sa Lambunao is not only because mahirap ito but also because nakikita na very progressive din ‘yung local chief executive, si Mayor Jason Gonzales,” said Vice President Leni Robredo who led the launching on Jan. 7.
ANGAT-BUHAY PRIORITY AREAS
Education is given priority, with particular emphasizes on the K to 12 program or linking senior high school students into college or into finding employment.
Health with particular emphasizes on maternal health is also valued.
In nutrition and feeding, there is emphasis on stunted children.
Developing farmers into entrepreneurs is also a goal to achieve rural development.
“Meron tayong gustong i-develop na model – ang mga farmers ikabit sa stable market,” said Robredo.
The goal is to remove middlemen from the trade equation so that farmers will greatly benefit from the income of their produce.
Angat-Buhay also aims to empower rural women.
“Dapat bigyan ng pagkakataon yung mga kababaihan. Hindi lang i-train sila pero hanapan na rin ng linkages. Iti-train sila sa meron ng market, ‘wag yung iti-train pero wala pa namang ready market,” Robredo explained./PN
