ILOILO City – The price adjustments of selected basic necessities and prime commodities were due mainly to the rising costs of raw materials, packaging materials, and fuel, among others, said Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 6 regional director Rebecca Rascon.

The DTI recently released the suggested retail prices of basic necessities and prime commodities. Based on the agency’s recent suggested retail prices (SRP), there were increases on the prices of selected canned sardines, milk, three-in-one coffee, salt, detergent and laundry soaps, condiments, and processed canned meat and beef.

Some of the ingredients and raw materials in the production of these items are imported. “The computation on production cost therefore affects the final selling price of the product,” Rascon explained.

Canned sardines in tomato sauce has an increased price range of 50 centavos to P1.65; milk products (condensed milk, condensada, evaporated milk, evaporada and powdered milk) registered SRP increases in the range of 50 centavos to P6.30; the three-in-one coffee with a 30-centavo increase; and, salt price increase ranges from 50 centavos to 75 centavos.

Detergent and laundry soaps increased from 70 centavos to 75 centavos; condiments price increase ranges from 30 centavos to P1.25; and, processed meat and beef ranges from 25 centavos to P1.75.
