Primary suspect in Leganes killing arrested; victim identified

ILOILO – Police have arrested the primary suspect in the killing of a 29-year-old man whose body was discovered in Leganes, Iloilo on Wednesday, April 8.

Police Captain Enrique Robles, officer-in-charge of the Leganes Municipal Police Station (MPS), confirmed that the suspect known by the alias “Biboy” was apprehended at around 1 a.m. yesterday.

The victim, meanwhile, has been identified as Jhomel Alejandro, a resident of Barangay Democracia, Jaro, Iloilo City.

In an Aksyon Radyo Iloilo report, while the primary suspect was in police custody, two other accomplices — aged 14 and 15 — remained at large as of press time. Robles stated that police visited the home of the 15-year-old in Leganes, but the minor’s father was reportedly uncooperative. The location of the 14-year-old suspect, who hails from Jaro, has yet to be determined.

The suspect’s arrest came after a witness positively identified Biboy as the individual who mauled the victim.

Closed-circuit television camera footage reviewed by police showed five individuals following Alejandro, though authorities clarified that only three were directly involved in the physical assault. According to the investigation, the suspects targeted the victim without provocation, essentially “tripping” or picking on him randomly.

Authorities are set to file a murder charge against the suspect. The two minors involved will likely be handled according to existing laws governing youthful offenders once apprehended.

As of writing, the Leganes MPS continued its follow-up operations to locate the remaining suspects./PN
