ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has voiced its support for the ongoing Senate investigation into the recruitment strategies of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) within educational institutions, under the oversight of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs.
In a statement, the PRO-6 highlighted the significant concern over NPA recruitment drives through various front organizations targeting schools, colleges, and universities.
It said these activities have impacted many young individuals, pushing the police force to advocate for increased vigilance and protective measures for students.
The Senate’s probe seeks to shed light on the situation, deemed an “eye-opener” by the PRO-6.
The regional police hopes that the investigation will result to concrete actions to shield young people from what it described as the exploitation and deceit propagated by communist fronts.
Additionally, the PRO-6 endorsed reports from the officials of Putian National High School and the Local Government Unit of Cuartero, Capiz which confirmed the absence of active NPA recruitment in their areas.
This follows the successful clearance of NPA influence in Cuartero, Capiz in 2019, after the dismantling of the rebels’ Eastern Front in Komiteng Rehiyon Panay.
The region has since witnessed various advancements under the Barangay Development Program by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC)./PN
