PRO-6 crime lab needs chemists, medtechs, doctors

ILOILO City – The Regional Crime Laboratory of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) needs chemists, medical technologists and doctors.

In a recent visit, Brigadier General Rolando Hinanay, Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Regional Crime Laboratory Office director, said the PRO-6 crime laboratory must be enhanced and having the right personnel is the first step.

“We need more doctors, chemists and medical technologists. Ideally, a regional crime laboratory should have at least one or two chemists, medical technologists and doctors,” said Hinanay.

A police crime laboratory doctor conducts, among others, autopsies.

Meanwhile, one of the jobs of the regional crime laboratory chemists and medical technologists is to test materials / chemicals such as those seized during anti-illegal drug operations or those submitted for drug testing.

Hinanay said he also envisioned the regional crime laboratory to be capable of conducting DNA tests.

A well-equipped and well-staffed he regional crime laboratory can help speed up and make more accurate the police’s investigation of crimes, he stressed.

According to Hinanay, the Philippine National Police has opened a DNA testing laboratory in Cebu to serve the Visayas./PN
