PRO-6 nets 153 unlicensed guns in a month

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) confiscated a total of 153 unlicensed firearms in Western Visayas during the month of August.

Records from PRO-6 showed that of the total, 37 firearms were seized through police operations while 116 were voluntarily surrendered during “Oplan Katok” visits, symposiums, pulong-pulong, and other advocacy initiatives.

PRO-6 director Brigadier General Josefino Ligan said the accomplishments highlight the regional police’s intensified drive against loose firearms.

“The strict enforcement of our campaign against loose firearms is part of our proactive approach to prevent crimes, especially gun-related incidents. By removing loose firearms from the streets, we are reducing opportunities for violence and strengthening peace in Western Visayas,” Ligan said.

He also directed provincial and city police offices to sustain operations to recover unlicensed firearms and reminded holders of expired gun licenses to renew them immediately.

As part of continuing enforcement, personnel of the San Remigio Police Station under the Antique Police Provincial Office (PPO) seized two firearms during a search operation last Friday, September 5, in Barangay Panpanan I, San Remigio.

Armed with a search warrant, operatives entered the house of alias “Tingting,” 54, at 11:20 a.m. and recovered two homemade 12-gauge shotguns without serial numbers, along with two live rounds of ammunition.

The suspect is now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
