ILOILO City — A total of 59 loose firearms and 10 explosive devices were surrendered to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) during a single day of intensified operations against unlicensed weapons across Western Visayas.
Data from the PRO-6 showed that from the morning of August 15 to the morning of August 16, various police units conducted 67 operations. The drive led to the voluntary surrender of 59 unlicensed guns and 10 explosive devices. Additionally, 31 firearms were deposited by their owners for safekeeping while their license renewals are being processed.
PRO-6 director Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said these achievements stem from the continuous campaign against illegal firearms and relentless advisories reminding gun owners to renew their licenses to remain responsible and avoid criminal liability.
“Community members and gun owners voluntarily surrendered the firearms through our strengthened efforts and operations,” Tuaño said.
The PRO-6 chief emphasized that taking loose firearms off the streets not only prevents crime but also reflects growing public trust in law enforcement.
“Ang bawat loose firearm na naaalis sa komunidad ay isang potensyal na banta na ating napipigilan. Ang patuloy na boluntaryong pagsuko ng mga armas ay malinaw ding pagpapakita ng tiwala ng ating mga kababayan sa kapulisan at ng kanilang pakikiisa sa ating layuning mapanatili ang kapayapaan at seguridad,” Tuaño said.
“Hinihikayat natin ang publiko na ipagpatuloy ang pakikipagtulungan at kusang isuko ang mga hindi lisensiyado o hindi rehistradong armas. Sa pagtutulungan ng kapulisan at komunidad, mas nagiging ligtas ang Western Visayas,” he added./PN
