ILOILO City – There are no organized robbery groups operating in Western Visayas, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).

Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, PRO-6 director, said intelligence operatives have not monitored any robbery groups in the region.

However, Wanky said they are not being complacent. He has ordered all police chiefs and units across Western Visayas to intensify police visibility especially on streets and crime-prone areas.

The PRO-6 director’s order comes after the recent robbery-holdup in Barangay Gaub, Cabatuan, Iloilo victimizing a delivery van carrying cigarettes.

Around P35,000 in cash was lost to the motorcycle-riding culprits on April 11, Cabatuan police said.

Police added one of the two suspects, armed with a gun, confronted the delivery can driver, then declared a holdup and swiftly took the cash.

“I want my men to step up their police visibility through conducting roving patrol and checkpoint. They have to monitor if there are robbery groups in their area of responsibility,” Wanky said.

The region’s top cop also ordered his men to strengthen the barangay intelligence network (BIN) and closely coordinate with barangay officials to collect information on the movements of criminals.

“The police chiefs should utilize their intelligence officers for monitoring,” Wanky added./PN
