PRO-6 on heightened alert following Duterte’s arrest

ILOILO – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has assured the public that there is no cause for alarm despite the nationwide heightened alert following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The arrest is linked to charges of crimes against humanity connected to his administration’s controversial antidrug campaign.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed all regional offices on heightened alert to ensure public safety.

Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of PRO-6, explained that the increased alert is a precautionary measure aimed at maintaining peace and preventing incidents in the region.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, and while we are prepared for any developments, our main priority is to preserve peace and order in Western Visayas,” Wanky said.

The police are particularly cautious of potential protests or rallies that may be organized by Duterte’s supporters. However, Wanky assured that public gatherings, provided they have the necessary clearances, will be allowed to proceed peacefully.

“We encourage peaceful expression but also want to ensure that any demonstrations are conducted in an orderly manner to avoid disturbances,” he added.

Authorities are confident that the heightened alert will not cause undue anxiety among residents. Wanky clarified that the measures are standard protocol designed to protect the community.

“We assure the public that they are safe, and there is no immediate threat that should cause alarm,” he said./PN
