ILOILO City – Five police officers are undergoing pre-charge investigation at the Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) for alleged offenses that could lead to their dismissal from service if proven guilty.
PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky issued a stern warning to police personnel across Western Visayas against involvement in illegal activities, emphasizing that such actions will result in severe sanctions, including possible dismissal.
“I acknowledge the commendable work of diligent police officers, but I am equally swift in imposing sanctions on erring cops. However, I assure that due process will be followed, allowing the police to defend themselves,” said Wanky.
This warning aligns with the recent statement of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil, who emphasized that police officers who commit violations detrimental to the PNP organization will not be allowed to return to service.
Marbil expressed dissatisfaction with mere suspension or demotion for erring officers, advocating for their dismissal from service.
“We ensure that involved officers do not return to service and face imprisonment. That is our objective,” Marbil declared.
Recent incidents include the arrest of a police colonel for car theft in connection with a rented vehicle being sold in Parañaque City, and the apprehension of four police officers for the abduction of four foreigners in Pasay City.
Marbil also stressed that commanding officers of policemen involved in illegal activities will be held accountable, as they bear the responsibility of supervising their subordinates./PN
