ILOILO City – A total of 71,060 families across Western Visayas have benefitted from the pantries launched by the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
Recently, the PRO-6 together with other regional police offices simultaneously launched the project “Barangayanihan Help and Food Bank”.
In Western Visayas, police personnel distributed to vendors, pedicab drivers and strikers gift packs containing canned goods, rice, milk and health kit to include vitamins and alcohol.
The distribution was spearheaded by PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, together with his staff and donors.
Miranda said they were able to help 71,060 families since they started on April 26, 2020 to May 12 this year through their 680 Barangayanihan kiosks that were established in the region.
The donated goods reached over than P5.9 million.
These goods were donated by 445 generous groups and individuals.
Miranda expressed his gratitude to the stakeholders who donated to PRO-6.
“Asahan din po ninyo ang commitment ng buong PRO-6 sa programa ng ating pinakamamahal na chief, Police General Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar. Asahan niyo po na patuloy na paiigtingin ng PRO-6 ang aming serbisyo publiko sa buong Region 6,” Miranda said.
The Barangayanihan concept has long been practiced by the PNP through the existing community relations programs such as “Kapwa Ko Sagot Ko”, “Community Feeding Program”, “Food Bank” and other community services by the different police regional offices nationwide.
“This activity reflects the bayanihan spirit, which is very much alive in the PNP and in the barangay,” Miranda said.
He added that the pantries will be sustained as long as there are donors./PN
