PRO-NIR orders swift action on rape-slay of minor

BACOLOD City – The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has taken swift action following the gruesome discovery of a minor’s body, believed to have been raped and murdered, in Sitio Pinasagan, Barangay Linantuyan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on September 30.

According to the Guihulngan City Police Station, the 10-year-old victim, a resident of Isabela, Negros Occidental, was found in the middle of a sugarcane plantation, unclothed and without undergarments, bearing multiple stab wounds. The incident reportedly occurred around 8:30 a.m.

Police immediately secured and documented the crime scene and coordinated with the City Health Office for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Follow-up operations were quickly conducted, during which witnesses were located and positively identified the suspect. A hot pursuit operation led to the arrest of the suspect, identified only as alias “Wil,” 33, single, a farmer, and a resident of Barangay Linantuyan. He was apprehended at around 3:10 p.m. the same day in Sitio Pinasagan.

Authorities also recovered a bladed weapon believed to have been used in the crime, along with other pieces of evidence. The suspect is now in police custody as the necessary documents are being prepared for the filing of criminal charges.

Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, strongly condemned the crime, calling it a heinous act of violence against a child.

“Violence against women and children is a grave offense that will never be tolerated. We share the grief of the victim’s family and stand with the community in demanding justice. PRO-NIR is committed to exhausting all means to bring the suspect to justice and ensure that such atrocities have no place in Negros Island,” Ibay said.

He also appealed to the public to cooperate by reporting any information that could help speed up the resolution of the case.

The protection of children and other vulnerable sectors, Ibay stressed, remains a top priority in PRO-NIR’s continuing campaign to maintain peace, order, and safety across the region./PN
