ILOILO — In a bid to speed up the reintegration of displaced migrant workers, the Iloilo provincial government has released ₱10,000 in cash assistance each to 59 repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) under its Financial Assistance to Repatriated OFWs (FAR-OFW) program.
The assistance, amounting to ₱590,000, was turned over last week by Go. Arthur Defensor Jr. in coordination with the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
The cash aid is intended as immediate relief for returning OFWs as they settle back home, cover urgent household needs, seek local employment, or begin small livelihood ventures.
The beneficiaries include OFWs who were forced to return to the Philippines due to political unrest, civil war, or natural calamities in their host countries, as well as those who suffered maltreatment by foreign employers, work-related injuries, illnesses, or accidents that made continued overseas employment impossible.
PESO-Iloilo, which facilitated the assistance, said it continues to serve as the province’s frontline office for employment facilitation, livelihood referrals, and reintegration support for returning migrant workers, as the local government intensifies efforts to cushion the impact of involuntary repatriation on Ilonggo families./PN
