CAPIZ — Capiz recorded an 8.7 percent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate from 2024 to 2025, making it the second fastest-growing province in the Philippines, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The province’s growth rate nearly doubled the country’s 4.4 percent average, based on the PSA’s report on the fastest-growing provinces and highly urbanized cities in terms of year-on-year GDP growth.
The PSA attributed Capiz’s economic expansion mainly to wholesale and retail trade, agriculture, forestry and fishing, supported by continued growth in the services sector.
Wholesale and retail trade provided the largest contribution to the province’s economic expansion, maintaining its position as a key driver of commercial activity.
Aquaculture and fisheries also posted significant gains, with the value of aquaculture production increasing by 69.9 percent from P9.49 billion in 2024 to P16.12 billion in 2025.
The increase further strengthened Capiz’s position as Western Visayas’ leading aquaculture producer.
The services sector, which includes transportation, food and accommodation, healthcare and professional services, also expanded by 6.9 percent and remained the province’s largest major sector.
Provincial officials led by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro attributed the economic gains to coordinated efforts among the government, private sector, farmers, fisherfolk and local businesses.
The provincial government said it intends to build on the economic momentum by expanding local business opportunities, strengthening agricultural stability and supporting sustainable economic growth.
“Ang ikaduha nga puwesto sang Capiz indi lamang numero sa estatistika, kundi pamatuod sang nagapadayon nga pag-uswag sang aton ekonomiya kag kabuhi,” the provincial government said, citing the collective efforts of government, the private sector, farmers, fisherfolk, entrepreneurs and Capiz residents.
It added that the continued growth could serve as a stronger foundation for more opportunities, stable livelihoods and a more prosperous future for the province./PN
