PSA Guimaras: Labor, income and expenditure surveys reach 72% target

ILOILO City – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office reported that it has now reached 72.1 percent of its targets for the July 2023 Round Labor Force Survey (LFS) and the 2023 Family Income and Expenditure Survey 1st visit (FIES-V1).

According to PSA-Guimaras, 554 households had already been reached out of the 768 pre-identified sample households from the 48 enumeration areas covering 38 barangays in the five municipalities of the province.

In the municipality of Buenavista, 201 households were covered; Jordan – 108 households; Nueva Valencia – 136 households; San Lorenzo – 223 households; and Sibunag – 100 households.

The LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey of households conducted by the PSA to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population and labor and employment.

Provincial Statistical Officer Nelida Losare explained that the LFS aimed to provide a quantitative framework for the preparation of plans and policies affecting the labor market.

The conduct of the 2023 July round of the LFS, which started on July 8, is mandated by the Republic Act (RA) 10625, or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013.

“Under Article 6, Rule 5 of the said RA, the PSA is mandated to prepare and conduct statistical sample surveys on all aspects of socio-economic life, including agriculture, industry, trade, finance, prices, marketing information, income and expenditure, education, health, culture, and social situations, for the use of the government and the public,” said Losare.

“This 2023 FIES V1 is the first round or visit of the 2023 FIES to gather data specifically on the income and expenditures of families for the first semester of 2023 (January – June 2023),” added Losare.

She also explained that the PSA Statistical Researchers shall undertake the surveys in two modes: through a phone interview and a face-to-face computer-assisted personal interview.

“All information collected by the hired Statistical Researchers from the sample households is kept strictly confidential and shall not be used for purposes of taxation, investigation or regulation as provided under Article 55 of RA 10625, but will be used solely as a reference on the levels and trends of employment, unemployment, and underemployment in the province,” Losare said.

She also thanked all the sample households for their cooperation. (PIA6-Iloilo/PSA-Guimaras)/PN
