PSA ‘hopeful’ to reach national ID target registrants

ILOILO City – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is optimistic of reaching its target registrants for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) before the year ends.

Nelida Amolar, Iloilo provincial statistics officer, said 1,365,350 Ilonggos have registered in the PhilSys (as of Nov. 3), close to their target of 1,571,029.

PSA-Iloilo opened registration sites in malls in Iloilo city and province. Registration is daily.

Amolar also said children five years old to 14 years old are also allowed to register.

Signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act establishes a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID, a valid proof of identity, aims to simplify public and private transactions, enrolment in schools and the opening of bank accounts.

It will also boost efficiency, especially when availing government services. People will only need to present the national ID during transactions.

As of Oct. 25, PSA-Iloilo received 231,196 national IDs from the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost), PSA’s official courier partner. However, only a total of 162,230 have so far been delivered, said Amolar.

She explained that the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas that prints the national IDs is keen on verifying the data.

An applicant who has yet to receive his/her national ID may check with the PSA-Iloilo, Amolar said.

“Bring your QR code or the acknowledgment receipt nga gin-issue sa inyo sang pag-rehistro para ma- track kon diin na sia dampi ang imo ID,” she added./PN
