BACOLOD City – An estimated P150,000 worth of properties went up in smoke when late-night fire struck a residential area in Purok Paloma, Barangay 11.

The blaze started past 11 p.m. on Tuesday, totally destroying seven houses and partially damaging four.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) declared that the fire was under control around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

BFP-Bacolod Fire Marshal Publio Ploteña said the blaze originated from Cecilia Ballesteros’s house, citing results of their initial investigation.

Ploteña added that they have yet to determine what specifically caused the fire.

The houses were made of light materials, that was why the fire easily speed, Ploteña said.

Ballesteros said she and her family were already asleep when the fire broke out.

It was the noise from their neighbors that woken them up, she added.

Ballesteros said the fire may have started from an overheated extension cord./PN
