MANILA — Savannah Davison unleashed a 32-point explosion as the PLDT High Speed Hitters survived a stubborn Farm Fresh Foxies side, 25-17, 23-25, 27-25, 21-25, 15-10, to seize solo first place in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference Thursday at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.
Behind Davison’s offensive surge, PLDT improved to a 5-1 win-loss record and tightened its grip on the early conference lead after prevailing in a gripping five-set encounter that tested the High Speed Hitters’ composure.
PLDT looked poised for a comfortable victory after taking the opening set, but Farm Fresh refused to fold and fought back to capture the second frame to even the contest.
The pivotal third set proved crucial in shifting the momentum of the match. The Foxies appeared ready to take control after building a 22-19 advantage, but PLDT mounted a late rally to steal the set, 27-25, and regain the upper hand.
Farm Fresh stayed resilient and forced a decider after claiming the fourth set, but Davison once again led the High Speed Hitters’ attack in the fifth frame as PLDT regained control and pulled away late to secure the win.
The loss dropped Farm Fresh to a 2-4 record, tying the Galeries Tower Highrisers for eighth place in the standings.
In the other match, the Cignal Super Spikers bounced back from their previous defeat with a straight-sets victory over the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23.
Roselyn Doria-Aquino delivered 11 points built on nine attacks and two blocks to earn Player of the Game honors as Cignal improved to a 5-2 win-loss slate.
Doria-Aquino said the team focused on correcting the mistakes from their previous outing, stressing the value of persistence and teamwork.
“Para sa team siyempre coming from a loss, kailangan namin magtiyaga at trinabaho namin yung mga lapses namin from last game,” she said in a post-game interview.
Vanessa Gandler led the Super Spikers offensively with 20 points from 18 attacks and two blocks, while Erika Santos finished with nine markers in the victory./PN
