Quarry operators fined for violations

ILOILO – Quarry operators violating the provincial ordinance prohibiting the overloading of their cargo trucks are being fined.

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) has so far collected P361,975 from January to March.

Quarry operators found to have committed other regulations of the provincial government such as quarrying outside of their designated areas are also being made to pay. The PENRO has so far collected from them P18,680.

According to PENRO officer-in-charge Arturo Cangrejo, some quarry trucks apprehended did not have delivery receipts, misdeclared their haul, tampered their delivery receipts, or had open-dated delivery receipts.

“The provincial government is serious in enforcing quarry rules and regulations,” he stressed.

A task force has been purposely created to do this.

Quarry trucks violating the anti-overloading ordinance face a fine of P3,000 or imprisonment of one month on the first offense; a fine of P4,000 or imprisonment of two months on second offense; and a fine of P5,000 or imprisonment of three months for the third and succeeding offenses./PN
