PASSI CITY, Iloilo — A 28-year-old woman on a motorcycle was killed after losing control on a wet stretch of road while trying to steer clear of a pipe jutting from the pavement, then being struck by a truck traveling behind her in Barangay Sablogon here before dawn on January 26, police reported.

The victim, identified only as “Marialyn” (alias), 28, of Barangay Ledesma Ward in Pototan, was headed toward the city proper at around 5:35 a.m., according to the Passi City Police Station.

Police identified the truck driver as “Marlon” (alias), 38, a resident of Dayaw, Roxas City, who was driving an Isuzu dropside truck at the time.

Police Captain Maria Rosario Miranda, Passi City police public information officer, said investigators found that the rider attempted to avoid the protruding pipe but the motorcycle slipped due to the rain and the slick roadway, causing her to fall.

The truck following behind then hit the fallen rider, with police noting that the driver did not immediately see the victim after she went down.

Authorities said the woman suffered a broken left leg and head injuries on the left side, which proved fatal.

The victim’s family later told police they preferred to settle the matter privately and would not file a complaint after speaking with the truck driver, Miranda added./PN
