ILOILO City – Vowing a more accessible and empathetic governance, newly installed Mayor Raisa Treñas has committed to an “open door policy” at the Iloilo City Hall — allowing both government employees and residents to approach her without prior appointments for any concern related to public service.
“This is something I want to make very clear: my office is open to all, whether you work in the city government or are a regular Ilonggo. As long as I’m here in the office, we will accommodate you, because that’s what public service is about,” said Treñas during her first flag-raising ceremony as mayor on June 30.
Her remarks outlined a leadership philosophy centered on compassion, respect, and integrity — values she said should be experienced not just through rhetoric but through everyday interactions with the local government.
“I don’t want people to feel hesitant to approach me. That’s why I make it a point to face everyone, even if it means cutting into my lunch, because no concern is too small when it’s for the good of the city,” she added, jokingly asking for a bit of time to eat during lunch breaks.
The mayor’s message resonated with many city hall employees, who welcomed her warm and inclusive tone. Treñas capped her speech with a reaffirmation of her commitment to serve with empathy and genuine public engagement.
“My door is always open, not just in policy, but in spirit. I want everyone in City Hall and in Iloilo City to feel that their voices matter,” she said./PN
