BACOLOD City – Fuel pumps at gasoline stations in the city must be recalibrated to ensure volume accuracy, according to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP).
The SP passed a resolution on Wednesday directing the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to immediately monitor gasoline stations in Bacolod and recalibrate their fuel pumps.
Resolution proponent Councilor Ricardo Tan said the prices of fuel products change almost every week, which affects the rates of basic commodities.
“It (change in fuel prices) hurts the budget of most of our constituents here in Bacolod City,” said Tan.
The DTI checking the gasoline stations will “protect the public against any form of short changing vis-à-vis fuel purchase,” Tan added.
Energy secretary Alfonso Cusi stressed that the oil price hike is a global problem, adding that it does not only happen in the Philippines but in other countries as well.
“This is not an internal problem but a global problem. We are now closely monitoring the prices and to find ways of what we can do with it,” he said.
According to Cusi, the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion does not cause the oil price hike but the following: low oil supply from Venezuela, oil price increase in Saudi Arabia and Unites States’ trade sanction on Iran./PN
